Autobiography and diary of William Marsden, 1871.

Typescript of a manuscript which details Marsden's life from 1814-1871, and which is a combination of autobiography, genealogy, and diary entries. It includes a history of Marsden's birth and religious conversion, a short biography of his wife Jane Appleby, a record of his travels in both England and the eastern United States, and a genealogical account of the births and deaths of various family members, including his children. It also includes a copy of Instructions to the President of the Seventy. The bulk of the manuscript consists of Marsden's diary entries from approximately 1858-1871 which describe his life in Utah, including his Church activities, blessings given to his family members, a record of farm work, and his attendence of various probate court hearings.

William Marsden was born in Lancashire, England, on March 15, 1814. He worked as a cotton spinner until the age of 25, when he left the Methodist Church and was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was made a priest by Parly P. Pratt and Brigham Young and helped organize a church in Oldham, England, with WIlliam Richards in 1840. He married Jane Appleby in 1835.
